Data Exceeds the Limit concerns the effects of information overload in a digital context, and in wartime. On one side a lenticular panel juxtaposes two locales that experienced massive ‘content overload’ during the Korean War: Taiwan's Green Island, a prison during the White Terror period, and Busan, the temporary wartime capital, depicting a series of war relics from each site. The structure references a refugee shelter, and on its reverse are two videos in which a series of fragmented first-person narratives register the damaging impact of information saturation on memory and on an individual’s relationship to everyday life.
This work is part of the long-term project 'New Order,' launched in 2023. Adopting the format of a filing system, this ongoing project seeks to investigate the dichotomized manipulation inherent within the narrative of the 'new order.' 'Data Exceeds the Limit' consists of two files within this project: File\New_Order\Normal_Life\Fire_ Island and File\New_Order\Normal_Life\Mountain_Village.
