大英百科全書將大河小說定義為「一系列的小說，每一本獨立成書，處理的命題可能是一位主要角色、國家的特定時期或是家庭的幾個世代」。顯然這種文學類型要求大量的資源投入——包含時間、空間及材料，但如果沒有相應資源的人，要如何達到同要的效果？在〈跳河小說〉的書寫表演中，將會中展示兩種自殺的案例，用以人們的能動性以及生命的冷酷，在表演的最後，全文將會被逐字刪除。

The Encyclopaedia Britannica defines roman-fleuve (French for “river-novel”) as "a series of novels, each one complete in itself, that deals with one central character, an era of national life, or successive generations of a family," a sweeping serial production premised on the exorbitant accumulation of inputs. Evidently, this literary genre demands a great amount of resources, including time, space, and material. How can those who lack similar resources fulfill the same purpose?

In jumping-river-novel, the form of the river-novel is turned into a gesture of performative writing taking two suicide cases as starting points to reflect upon human agency and the inexorability of life. At the end of the performance, the whole text will be deleted word by word.
